This little blue heron (Egretta caerulea) had an itch that just had to be scratched. I love this common, natural moment captured of this little blue!
Per Wikipedia:
This species is about 60 cm (24 in) long, with a 102 cm (40 in) wingspan, and weighs 325 g (11.5 oz). It is a medium-large, long-legged heron with a long pointed blue or greyish bill with a black tip. Breeding adult birds have blue-grey plumage except for the head and neck, which are purplish and have long blue filamentous plumes. The legs and feet are dark blue. The sexes are similar. Non-breeding adults have dark blue head and neck plumage and paler legs. Young birds are all white except for dark wing tips and have dull greenish legs. They gradually acquire blue plumage as they mature.

Carol began her journey into the arts during her early teens, thanks to a wonderful teacher who gave Carol new perspectives to explore. That curiosity continued to expand and flourish. Carol went on to study art and architecture, receiving a Bachelor of Architecture from Washington State University. Composition, design elements, forms and textures became the foundation for seeing the world around her. Carol’s photography and digital art has evolved over the years, using the elements of design to create a view into the world which is atypical and inspired by the lines and angles of a building or the curves, textures and flow of nature. Bringing out textures and making use of light play are key elements in her work to accentuate the...

Carol Again a very very unusual heron shot, but one that adds so much character to the bird!! Usually herons and egrets look so aloof when photographed, but you can't help but love this guy on first viewing!! You kind of want to go up to him and start a conversation --"Hey, bro, what's up??"
Carol Lloyd replied:
:D Thanks, Ken! Glad you enjoyed the shot.

Carol: WE had to laugh when we viewed this image as we have one posted doing the same thing except ours is perched on a tree limb looking down toward us as we were on a kayak shooting it straight on. But that scratch was the exact same. Now to your image. OUTSTANDING !!! We love the feather action on its neck, the visible clarity of its eye, also the clarity of the colors and the slightly blurred water background is perfection. This is incredible photography here.
